‘Damn Yankees’ by Jane Love
Playcrafters'
Fall Musical, "Damn Yankees" was a show with Heart, Shoeless
Joe and plenty of good family entertainment. The audience loved the antics of
the baseball players, the kids and the cast who all sang and danced with
enthusiasm. The smell of popcorn and pretzels and the jolly rendition of
"Take Me Out to the Ball Game" set the tone and the evening was filled
with laughter and applause. Another winner for Playcrafters!

The Dramatic Reading at Christ Church
by Linda Hillman
Playcrafters
is proud to sponsor a dramatic reading of "The Man Who Came to Dinner"
on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Christ Church Parish Hall in Bellport.
Doors will open at 1:30 p.m for refreshments and the reading will begin promptly
at 2:00 p.m. This classic Kaufman and Hart comedy has entertained audiences
since its first performance in 1939. Enjoy the talents of many Playcrafter's
veterans in this dramatic reading about the hilarious exploits of radio
celebrity Sheridan Whiteside as he remains confined to a wheelchair in the home
of the Stanleys where he monopolizes the house with unusual visitors, strange
gifts and a $784 phone bill. When Maggie, Whiteside's secretary falls in love
with Bert Jefferson, a local reporter, Whiteside summons a glamorous actress,
Lorraine, to tempt Bert away from Maggie. Plot twists and turns keep the
audience laughing. Directed by George Loizides and produced by Linda Hillman.
This reading is free to Playcrafter members. Guests will be admitted
for a donation of $7.00 per person. This performance is produced by special
arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
“The Nerd”
by Judy Perfido
Playcrafters is pleased to announce that the
spring show will be "The Nerd", written by Larry Shue. We are
also pleased to have Bob Kaplan back as Director and Judy Perfido as Producer.
"The Nerd" is a comedy about an architect, Willum Cubbert, who owes a
debt to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his
life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. He has written to Rick to
say that as long as he is alive, "You will have somebody on Earth who will
do anything for you". Unexpectedly, at his 34th birthday party, Rick
shows up and Willum realizes that Rick is a hopeless "nerd", a
bumbling oath with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact. As
Rick stays on and on, his continued presence among Willum and his friends leads
to one uproarious incident after another, until the normally placid Willum finds
himself contemplating violence. A dire development is happily, staved off
by the surprising "twist" ending of the play.
Performances will be on April 27 & 28 and May
4 & 5, 2007 at 8pm in our theater space at the Bellport Middle School.
